Gan is our next subject, and seventh of 12 in our pre-Thanksgiving customer profile series.
About men with dimples, it is said, "you may not know why, but you will find yourself laughing right along with them." This is definitely the case with Gan. He's the life of the party, extremely outgoing, athletic and affable. His answers to the Bacchus Questionnaire let us in on his dreams of travel, fear of neckless creatures, telekinesis and his standby, Captain & Coke.
Where are you from? Wuhan, China. I'm sure you've heard of it. How long have you lived in Hawaii? Around two years. What is your relationship status? Yes, I'm in a relationship. What are your favorite qualities in a man? Kindness, loyalty, intelligence and sense of adventure. What are your chief characteristics? I'm smart, active and somewhat of a perfectionist (anal). What do you appreciate most about your friends? They're there for me when I need them.
Gan has played with the Hawaii Gay Flag Football League (HIGFFL) for the past three seasons. He's a stand-out receiver and runs very fast.
What's your idea of happiness? Reading a fantastic book on a lazy Sunday morning with a cup of hot tea in my hand in the nook of a house that stands on top of the hill with an amazing view. Or the idea of being able to hop on a plane and explore somewhere I haven't been to. What's your greatest fear? Bugs and snakes. Especially cockroaches and centipedes. Snakes - mostly things that don't have necks. What's your idea of misery? If i were the last MAN on earth. Which historical figure do your most identify with? Christopher McCandless. He's a solo traveler and hiker who died in Alaska in 1992 due to starvation. His stories were published as Into the Wild. He's really not a historical figure and I don't agree with most of his ideology and worldview, but I do admire his determination and strength to follow his dream regardless of the sacrifices he had to make. If you weren't yourself, who would you like to be? Can I just be myself? It's not a perfect life, but I enjoy the ride. I wouldn't trade it for anything else.
Where else in the world would you like to live? I wouldn't mind trying Australia or the UK. What is your greatest extravagance? Good food. Who is your favorite hero of fiction? 007 (the Daniel Craig version). What talent would you like to be gifted with? Telekinesis and teleportation. So I can fly myself or just pop up somewhere without paying for extravagant tickets or suffering 10+ hours in a metal tube with tiny windows while breathing other people's farts.
If you were to die and could choose a person or thing to come back as, what would it be? A bird. They can fly and are related to dinosaurs. How cool is that? What's your favorite drink? Captain and Coke. What would you tell others about Bacchus Waikiki? it's a friendly bar. You can always expect friendly faces and excellent service whether you come by yourself or friends, on a weekday or weekend. They're a big supporter of the community, too.
