There's Aloha Here!

Ty is the 12th and final pre-Thanksgiving customer profile.

Aloha. We use it in greetings and farewells and in expressing love. But the word means even more, it's a way of life — or "joyfully sharing life." Ty embodies this meaning of Aloha. He's a football playing', food-lovin' D&D aficionado who tells us of his passion for shoes, RuPaul catch phrases, slender and tightly muscled characters and Stoli Razberi.

Where are you from? I grew up in Kahuku, which is a small town (but big on football, Go Big Red!) on the North Shore of Oahu. How long have you lived in Hawaii? I left Hawaii after high school and spent a decade on the mainland. Moved back to Hawaii with my partner Lyle about four years ago. What's your relationship status? When I was in LA, I used to joke around with my friends that I would meet a corn-fed, Midwest farmhand and we would fall in love. Check and Mate, giggity. What are your favorite qualities in a man? Handsome smile, quick witted, and kind hearted, i.e. Lyle. What are your chief characteristics? I like to think that I’m an outgoing person who smiles a lot. My friends would probably say that I’m an expert button-pusher. What do you appreciate most about your friends? They are some of the most selfless and outgoing folks I know. Also, I’m thankful that they can drink as much as I do.

What’s your idea of happiness? Drinking champagne in a hot tub outside at night surrounded by snow. Because you don’t need a cooler to keep the champagne bottle cold, duh. What is your greatest fear? Missing out on breakfast with a hangover from the bubbles. What’s your idea of misery? Food poisoning. Though you do lose a few pounds afterwards, so I guess it can’t be all that bad. Which historical figure do you most identify with? Imelda Marcos. She has the best collection of shoes and accessories.

If you weren’t yourself, who would you like to be and why? Maybe myself when I was younger armed with the knowledge of today. Not that I would change anything or do anything different though, butterfly effect and all... Where else in the world would you like to live? Seattle, San Francisco, San Diego, somewhere West Coast would be nice. What is your greatest extravagance? I love Vegas!!!

Who are your favorite heroes in fiction? Jarlaxle Baenre. Which living or historical person do you despise and why? Leaders who use fear and slander to justify fill-in-the-blanks. What talent would you like to be gifted with? Persuasion. If you were to die and could choose a person or thing to come back as, what would it be? The Christmas Tree in front of the Rockefeller Center or Chef Rick Bayless. What is your personal motto? How about a trifecta? “Make it work,” “Don’t fuck it up,” and “Now is the time to lip-synch for your life!”

What's your favorite drink? My current fixation is Raspberry Stoli and Soda water. They were considering pulling it off the shelves at Bacchus but I think I proved that I could drink enough of it to keep it on the shelves. What would you tell others about Bacchus Waikiki? Come and check it out if you haven’t yet. It’s basically the home bar for Hawaii Gay Flag Football League members. Bacchus was the first to actively support our idea when we were just a few guys throwing the ball around. The bartenders and people are friendly, the drinks strong, and the music is great. Anything else you’d like to add? We are hosting a gay flag football tournament called, The Aloha Classic, over President’s Day weekend next year. It’s individual registration, anyone can sign up and we will place you onto teams. A lot of my mainland friends are coming in for it so it’s a great way to make friends and network with people from all over the US. Check out for more information!

With his dream flag football tournament kicking off in February, Ty is ready to share the joyful spirit of Oahu with friends, competitors and visitors. Thank you for the profile. Aloha!
