First, fill a saucer with a bit of salt (kosher or iodized or whatever kind you prefer). Next, cut a notch into a lime wedge and place that notch over the edge of your cocktail glass. Squeeze gently as you run the lime around the entire rim of the glass to moisten it.
Now, the trick- to make sure that the salt only touches the outside of the glass, tip the glass on its edge place it in the salt and swirl the stem of the glass in your hand 360°. The rim should have salt on the outside only. Success means that there is no salt within the glass mucking up your sweet tequila, Cointreau and lime juice.
