Bacchus hosted it's first 2016 Pride week event last night when 8 teams competed for the coveted Trivia Trophy. When it was all said and done, Team: Don't Be Fooled By The Red Sweater triumphed! See pix and the write up on our Events page. Our next Pride week event is Friday night's BAWDY shirts off party; get revved up for the Saturday parade and party shirtless until 2AM with your friends old and new.
Last week, a customer asked why the Honolulu gay pride event was moved to October this year.
The short answer: with the goal of turning the event to a "DESTINATION PRIDE," the group that runs the events, Hawaii LGBT Legacy Foundation, decided that instead of competing with other cities for June pride attendees, an autumn date was the best idea.
They know that this first October pride will be amazing with new participants, new sponsors and new festival location. Have you seen the rainbow banners on Kalakaua Street? Their hope is that after a few years, the October date will be a draw and start to bring the crowds. So tell your friends and families; Honolulu is the place to be for Pride!
Bacchus will have a float in the parade. The fabulous Willie Sable (also this year's Pride Committee Chairman) will be building the Bacchus float - and we'll go back to our roots: Ancient Rome, a time of togas and sandals. Bacchus, the god of libations lords over the masses and ensures that all have a great time. DJ Ta-Kai is mixing up the music that sets the soundtrack to the party that never ends. Join us in the parade! Put on your best toga and celebrate!
AFTER THE PARADE
When the parade ends, there's a Pride Festival at Diamond Head Greens at the Waikiki Shell complex, adjacent to Kapiolani Park.
The new venue means more space for community, vendor and sponsors booths; more food and beverage choices (including beer, wine and cocktails); and two stages of continuous entertainment by the best local and national artists.
Of course Bacchus will be open during this time, so if you want to get away from the hubbub, just come on over to 408 Lewers in the heart of Waikiki - we'll help you relax with our friendly service and outstanding cocktails (probably much less expensive than the festival).
Keep the party going with a night of revelry at Bacchus. Then come back for the super fabulous...
Bacchus Beer Garden from 3-8PM. Last year this event was THE best pride event in Honolulu. Don't miss it! DJ Takai will be on, the drinks will be flowing and the courtyard will be open!
