A blog reader asks:
When I drink, I tend to enjoy the sweet cocktails more than the bitter or savory. I worry that they're filled with unnecessary calories. What do you recommend for someone watching their diet who still loves to drink tasty mixed drinks?
Alcoholic drinks can be a sneaky source of calories, sugar, and even salt. For those of you concerned, a simple healthier option is available at Bacchus.
And when we say simple, we mean simple. Each of these classic recipes uses just one kind of freshly-squeezed citrus fruit, and one kind of liquor (okay - and maybe a dash or two of plain old sugar to ease the pucker factor). That’s it.
At Bacchus, fresh squeezed orange, lemon or lime juice is always an option when you're ordering your cocktail. There's a nominal additional charge, but it's worth it. And, at busy times, it might take a little longer to get your cocktail, but, again, it's worth the wait!
Try one of these cocktails that just mix an ounce and a half or so of the specified liquor with 3-6 ounces of the specified juice:
Screwdriver: Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice + Vodka
Bocce Ball: Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice + Amaretto
Rum and Orange: Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice + Dark Rum
Whiskey or Bourbon Sour: Fresh Squeezed Lemon juice + Whiskey or Bourbon + Simple Syrup
Lemon Drop: Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice + Vodka + Simple Syrup
Classic Daiquiri: Fresh Squeezed Lime Juice + White Rum + Simple Syrup
Of course, we have additional cocktails with fresh squeezed juices including several on our Spring 2016 Cocktail Menu. Check out the table tents when you're at the bar.
