Making Connections

One shot of good tequila might be just the thing that lowers your anxiety and gives you the impetus to get involved. All tequila shots are only $5 every Thursday at Bacchus.

Today is National Be Heard Day—an occasion for all to make their voices heard.

It’s a day that celebrates small businesses and individuals and encourages them to stand up for themselves and their ideas. This day is celebrated every year; the activist actions of the students of Parkland, Florida bring the concept to the forefront today. SO....

Do one thing today to make your voice heard.

Maybe it’s sharing a business idea with a friend, writing a letter to the editor of a local paper, writing a blog post, or even (gulp) writing a Tweet. There are so many ways to connect with people online and in person, and National Be Heard Day is a great reason to start. They're taking a cue from the most memorable trivial line from 1976’s Network.

Here in Honolulu, here are a few ways to be included:

Get involved with The Aloha Bears. Don’t let the group’s title fool you—all are welcome to enjoy upcoming catamaran cruises and hikes and bowling nights.

Join the Hawaii Gay Flag Football League. This is another group that welcomes all—beginners and experienced players join together on Saturday mornings at Kapiolani Park and enjoy sport, camaraderie and a robust social calendar.

Attend a meeting and volunteer with the Hawaii LGBT Legacy Foundation. This is the group that organizes and runs Honolulu Pride—an event that can thrive on people donating their time and effort.

Small steps today can set you on the path for success tomorrow.

Join us at Bacchus today and any day. Make friends at Stage and Screen Night on Monday, March 12th, 6-10PM. Sing along to tunes from Broadway, Movies, the Internet and beyond.
