Two By Two? Or Two For One?

It’s 2-4-1 Wooden Nickel Wednesday at Bacchus. That means 2 well drinks are available for the price of 1. And, if you’re particular about the brand of liquor you drink, call drinks are $2 off! Cheers! Tonight, DJ Takai spins from 10PM until closing. No cover charge, ever!

2-4-1! So a pair of drinks? Yes! And by pair, we mean 2! Some nouns in English are plural and always counted in pairs even though there is only 1 of them.

Single items referred to as pairs:
pants/trousers, underwear, swimming trunks, shorts, jeans, glasses, sunglasses, binoculars, goggles, scissors, pliers, clippers, tweezers, tongs. There is no trivial grammatical label for these kinds of words.

Things that commonly come in pairs (two separate items):
shoes, socks, slippers, boots, shoe laces, gloves, cuff links, earrings, contacts, eyes, lungs, kidneys, wings, dice, skis, skates, crutches, chopsticks, speakers, headlights, windshield wipers, knitting needles

Things that may be considered either one or two items:
headphones, handcuffs

OK! And, to reiterate: well cocktails at Bacchus on Wednesday are 2-4-1 and that means 2 cocktails for the price of 1. Add some delicious food to go with it! You’ll enjoy it all!

Tomorrow is Rock·n·Roll Bingo night with host Andrew! It all starts at 7PM. Don’t miss it. PRIZES WILL BE AWARDED! :-)
